Jules Verne EXTRAORDINARY TRAVELS. The Famous People series issued in 2005 pays homage to Jules Verne`s “Extraordinary Voyages” novels. He had the idea of introducing fiction into science at a time when techniques and sciences were turning towards discovery: the writer understood that techniques and their practical achievements have greater value in the eyes of the public than theoretical research. It is therefore science that allows all its great heroes to realize their dreams and accomplish extraordinary actions. Scenes from the following novels are represented on the 6 stamps: “Around the World in Eighty Days”, “Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea”, “Five Weeks in Balloon”, “Journey to the Center of the Earth”, “From the Earth to the Moon” and “Michel Strogoff”.
