Vladimir Chelomei. - Rival of Korolev, produces his first drafts of space station. In October 1964, Chelomei made proposals for a space station capable of accommodating two to three cosmonauts. His design office then designs Almaz ("Diamond") and Chelomei touts his project to the military as a means for the Soviet Union to monitor American aircraft carriers at sea. This ultra-secret project consists of an observation post military in orbit, equipped with high-resolution cameras. Its supply must be ensured by heavy cargo ships, while re-entry capsules must make it possible to recover the data tapes recorded in flight. Mikhail Yangel (1911-1971) - One of the three designers of liquid fuel rocket engines in the USSR. As an associate of Korolev, he established a rocket propulsion center in Dniproperovsk in Ukraine. At first, Yangel mass-produced the intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) that Korolev started. Yangel quickly became an important competitor, not only as a manufacturer of ICBMs, such as the R-12, R-14, and R-36, but also of several space launchers, including the Zenit, cosmos, and Tsyklon rockets. Valentin Petrovich Glushko (1909-1989) is considered the greatest rocket engine designer in the Soviet Union. Glushko was the one who transformed Tsiolkovsky`s theory into practical reality by the design (1929-1930) and the realization of the first liquid rocket engine called ORM-1 assembled and tested in 1931. The bulk of his work will be done through three series of engines ORM4 to ORM-22, ORM-23 to ORM-52 and ORM-53 to ORM-66. The end of his career will be marked by the design of the RD-170 engine that equipped the Energia-Buran space shuttle. Informationen zu den Werten :
