Descripción : Hisashi Kimura (1870 – 1943) was a Japanese astronomer and geodesist renowned for his pioneering studies of Earth’s polar motion — the subtle shifting of the planet’s rotation axis relative to its crust. While the main component, the Chandler wobble, has a period of about 14 months, Kimura identified in 1902 a smaller annual variation, now called the z‑term, caused by seasonal redistribution of atmospheric and oceanic masses. This stamp, portraying Kimura, was issued to mark the 50th anniversary of the Mizusawa Latitude Observatory, which he directed from its founding in 1899 until 1941. Información sobre los valores :
