Beschreibung : Hisashi Kimura (1870 – 1943) was a Japanese astronomer and geodesist renowned for his pioneering studies of Earth’s polar motion — the subtle shifting of the planet’s rotation axis relative to its crust. While the main component, the Chandler wobble, has a period of about 14 months, Kimura identified in 1902 a smaller annual variation, now called the z‑term, caused by seasonal redistribution of atmospheric and oceanic masses.
