Descripción : Fifty years ago, on 21 July 1969, two astronauts walked on the moon for the first time in human history. Philately Liechtenstein is issuing the two commemorative stamps “Astronaut” (face value: CHF 1.80) and “Lunar Lander” (face value: CHF 2.00) to mark the anniversary. Designer René Wolfinger created the two stamp motifs in black and white and colour using collages consisting of image and graphic elements. Neil Armstrong, Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin and Michael Collins launched a Saturn V rocket from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida on 16 July 1969 as part of the Apollo 11 mission. The outward flight to the destination some 384,403 kilometres away lasted 76 hours which meant they reached moon`s orbit on 19 July. While Collins remained behind in the command module of the spaceship, Armstrong and Aldrin landed the lunar module Eagle on the moon the next day. A few hours later Armstrong was the first human to walk on the moon, and shortly afterwards Aldrin as well. After a nearly 22-hour stay, the lunar module took off again from the surface of the moon and returned to the mother ship.
