Nimiq 5, a Canadian commercial communications satellite, was launched on a Proton rocket with a Breeze M upper stage from Baikonur on 17 September 2009 at 19:19 UT. The satellite carries 32 Ku-band transponders to beam direct-to-home programming to North America.
