The satellite was magnetically stabilized and was launched into a low nearly circular orbit on October 1, 1969, resulting in a rather short lifetime of only 52 days. Even so, during this period, a large amount of onboard tape recorder and real-time data were recovered. These data are particularly valuable in correlative studies with the identical satellite ESRO 1/Aurorae that was launched October 3, 1968, into a similar orbit, and operated until June 26, 1970.
