Description : USS Iwo Jima (LPH-2) was the primary recovery ship for Apollo 13 mission. On April 17, 1970, the spacecraft splashed down in the Pacific Ocean, just 4 miles (6.4 km) from the USS Iwo Jima. A Sikorsky SH-3D Sea King helicopter was used to recover the astronauts, who were then brought aboard. Type Amphibious assault. Apollo XIII Pacific Recovery Fleet.
