This is the 500th flight of the Soyuz capsule, and the 125th manned flight. It reached the international space station after two days of flight.

Two new team members join the members of the ISS expedition 45, the Danish Andreas Mogensen (ESA) and the Kazakh Aïdyn Aimbetov, for a period of 10 days. They returned to earth aboard Soyuz TMA-16M on September 12, 2015.

Andreas Mogensen becomes the first Danish on this occasion to go to space.

The return of Soyuz TMA-18M was on March 2, 2016, after about 180 days in orbit, the Soyuz having a guaranteed lifespan of 210 days in orbit.

Aboard Soyuz TMA-18 for the return, Mikhail Kornienko and Scott Kelly had left almost a year earlier with Soyuz TMA-16M on March 27, 2015. They are the longer stays on board the ISS
