Beskrivning : Cosmos 261 carried an experiment to study (1) geoactive corpuscles-electrons and protons that are the cause of the northern lights, (2) electrons of super-thermal energy, and (3) changes in the density of the upper layers of the earth`s atmosphere during northern lights. This experiment was a joint effort of research institutions and observations of the People`s Republic of Bulgaria, the Hungarian People`s Republic, the German Democratic Republic, the Polish People`s Republic, the Romainian Socialist Republic, The Soviet Union, and the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic.
