THE COLLECTION

The Concorde is one of the rare planes to be allowed to have a place in the conquest of space by man, X-15 for example is in the collection  "Precurseurs" because it exceeded 80km altitude and that it was used in the NASA research program for the future space shuttle.

Currently the sky arrives at saturation, it would be necessary to manufacture larger planes or faster ones and probably both. The concorde is now the precursor of the public transport of the future.

The Concorde cruises at 2 500 km per hour, whereas the other planes fly at 900 km/h. It goes 2 times higher (20000 meters)...

June 30, 1973, supersonic Concorde is transformed into an observatory, used by scientists to photograph the total solar eclipse while flying over North Africa. She has, thanks to its speed and extreme stability, allowed the unequalled observation of a total eclipse.. Thus the usual time of observation is multiplied by ten. 8 minutes long seen from the ground, it lasts 81 minutes seen from the supersonic! This event inserts automatically the Concorde in the SPACE related collection.

P.S.: Thanks to a Concorde flight you can arrive 2h after being gone, in a one duration flight of 4h, if the flight goes in opposite direction of the time-lag. Concorde moves at 0,52 times the linear velocity, on the level of the ground, of the rotation of the Earth.
